SPECULATION : Milner stays but refuses to sign new contract – UPDATED – Will go if price is right

Contrary to my last blog post where I expect Milner to go the Mirror for the second day running are speculation that Milner will stay as Man city refuse to match our price. This will mean Milner will still be at VP but refuses to sign a new contract straight away. The lack of Man City’s money James Nursery (Blues fan) says we have no cash to buy anyone.

UPDATED – 12:30 22/07

Sky Sports and others reporting that MON has said Milner wants to go.

Of course Milner has not handed in a transfer request that will cost him loads of cash and that says it all about a player I thought had integrity and class, he has NONE.

Transfer request please Milner, forgo some money so we can lower the price and get rid of you, I am totally disappointed in your actions.

In another story the Mirror claim we have missed out on possible target Hugo Rodallega to Stoke.

  1. James “Nursey” Is actually a Norwich City Fan and is closer to Villa than you think. So I would suggest that he’s more in the know then yoursevles.

  2. Firstly, let’s acknowledge the positives here. Aston Villa have a billionaire chairman who understands the art of negotiation. Aston Villa also have a set of players who are attracting big money offers. Milner was a revelation last season and to push the offer through Manchester City are publishing the offer in the press.

In addition there is the precedent of Gareth Barry. He agreed to play an extra season to allow the manager to find a replacement. I am sure that Milner will, as a matter of principle, agree to the same. The Barry precedent provides a second important element – Milner knows that going to City is unlikely to make him a better player. Barry’s halcyon days were when he was picking out passes at Villa Park. If Milner is genuinely ambitious he will want to sign for Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United. To do that he has to maintain his form and play regularly.

The above discussion does not set out that Villa are in the driving seat. The fears about transfer targets are unfounded. M.O’N buys well and late. In Martin we trust.

  3. If Milner wants to move to Manchester City then I agree that we should sell him. However, I also think it should be on our terms.

We have propelled Milner from an average winger to a first-class central midfielder, and we deserve some reward for that. For me, £25m is the minimum; doubling what we paid for him.

The re-investment should be on 1 or 2 players. If we retain Shorey, Luke Young and Reo-Coker then I think we have two players for every position.

We also have plenty of players who can rotate to other positions if required. The transfer targets should be a £10-15m central midfielder and a £20m striker. They only way we are going to become an even bigger threat to the top four is with subtantial investment in one of two players, not average investment in seven or eight.

  4. As a City fan i fully understand your fustrations at losing your best players but lets consider the price, how much would you buy Milner for now.? 15-18 million max which i think is his current market value prob the same as SWP when we sold him to Chelsea for 24million (see the link) we have offered you a not a fair price but a good price for a good player (and thankfully we will not budge) we need to make a stand ourselves stating we will not come back with bigger offers just because you rejected our first “good offer” no other club would pay 24million apart from us obviously so why should we pay more?

    Dont take away my Breakaway!!

  5. mate, you paid £24m for Lescott, that is how we value players on, would you not agree the 4th best proivider of goals last season is worth at least £6m more than that donkey ?

you did it to yourselves by paying stupid money and wages.

I hope every player and selling club that comes to you gets ripped off.

  6. ianrobo in your defence Santa Cruz would have been a better player to choose i think, i am sorry but you value players on lots of things but not on what another player cost thats like saying a house in Oldham should cost the same as a house in London its about what its worth to you and what you can get and I also hope every player and selling club that comes to us gets ripped off! :)
looking foward to the season and good look.

  7. *luck :P

  8. So Milner officially wants out (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12874_6274338,00.html?), at least it’s now been confirmed. Get rid of him and get Ireland in!

  9. thansk Sam, will update post

  10. disgusted by Milner ovber this, where is the offical transfer request, hope he likes being ‘rotated’

Get deal done ASAP on our terms so we can get players in, final end game

  11. i’m utterly disguted with Milner i thought he was one of the last genuine footballers left. Not bothered about hard cash, just football. I was obviously wrong! Villa and O.neil in particular made him the player he is now! Without us he’d probably still be at Newcastle having an average career. Since coming to us he became Capello’s golden boy. The country’s favourite player and increased his value by more than double, and he re-pays that by telling O.neil pre world cup he wants to leave! He’s not gonna get a warm welcome from me on his 1st visit back to villa park.

  12. I too thought Milner was the last person in football who had loyalty – How wrong were we!! Personally ive had enough of this Milner talk, he doesnt even have the bottle to come out and admit he wants to leave the club. Got to say fair play to Ashley Young, within days of rumours starting about him leaving- he makes a statement saying he wants to stay as Villa were the club that gave him his chance and he doesnt want to turn his back on the club. In my opinion i think we should make him our key man, even if Milner does end up staying.

  13. I still respect Milner. He told M.O’N he wanted to leave but did not disclose this to the press. M.O’N has told the press.

Let’s wish Milner all the best. Two more seasons at Villa Park could have made him a legend. He may still achieve that status at Manchester City or another interested club.

I hope for England’s sake they don’t waste James Milner like Gareth Barry. He’s to a new set of Villa superstars.

  14. Do players have NO bloody loyalty nowadays? Martin O’Neill payed TWELVE MILLION for you James. He had faith in you when nobody else did. He gave you your big chance, he f**king made you! Does he not see that he’d still be an average player in everyone elses eyes without MON… I hope you have a career ending injury you Judas bastard! Thanks for the 30 million.

  15. Milner wants to go. He wants money. He actually said City are a bigger club. Which we all know is not true.

  16. I’m disappointed in Milner. I’m sure I read something saying he wouldn’t force a move, but he evidently has and for that I’ve lost respect for him.

Just get rid of him as soon as possible. Don’t have him back in pre-season training either. We don’t want someone with that kind of negative attitude mixing with the rest of the squad.

If I was O’Neill, i’d tell him to stay away and get a deal arranged with City asap. £20m plus Ireland will do.

  18. Another interesting angle, although I take anything I read in the Daily Mail with a pinch of salt:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1297001/Milner-chaos-James-asked-says-ONeill–player-says-thats-true-Man-City-make-final-24m-bid.html?

Interesting to hear what everyone has to say about this?

  19. As an Evertonian snooping around I have to say I feel sorry for Villa fans and all this speculation about Milner. (Welcome to our world!!). He is a smashing player but I wish he had shown more heart and loyalty to the Villa …who are just as good (if not better than city in my opinion). Why does money have to change everything?. He won’t be getting a paupers wage at Villa surely and if he and other top players decide to be loyal to the clubs and fans then they will still have a chance of honours !!. As we found out with Lescott though, once a player says he wants to go that is the end of the road. He will leave Villa ….. for better things? …possibly, but I hope that if he does then Villa do the double over City and finish above them. Now tahat will be a bit of justice. Good luck Villa…except when you play us.
