There are various rumours doing the rounds and hinted at on various forums that Robbie Keane may have been at Bodymoor Heath this week, possibly either Tuesday or Wednesday.
I have no definite links to this and therefore this is a very loose link and should be treated with caution but it is worth mentioning it.
For my part I am really ‘Keane’ (get it !!) to get Robbie in, even at his age. I believe he has the qualities we need not to only improve as a team but improve the likes of Gabby and Young as his passing and football brain would be far better than what we have now including Milner. To be honest I would love to see him and Milner combine feeding Gabby through the middle with his pace.
We will see
Aston Villa News 24/7
Hope so.
Eh, he has been crap for the last two seasons. So I wouldn’t pay more than 6 million for him, and that surely wouldn’t meet Spurs’ asking price.
VFT he has not been crap, just treated awfully at Liverpool but he still scored goals given limited appearances
I make no bones about it, I am a confirmed 100% fan of Robbie, ever since he was at Wolves, I want him at Villa but the deal with Spurs has to be right
£8m
I was a fan of Stan Collymore when he was at Southend, and at Nottingham Forest, and at Liverpool. But not when he scored 1 goal every 6 or 7 games at Villa Park.
Nuff said.
Paul, maybe the case but he was also frankly out of balance, Keane is not.
I’d pay 6m tops. Can’t say it’d get me too excited, short term signing. I’d rather we were looking at the young lad Wickham at Ipswich
Aj, check out this blog, there is a rumour posted we are looking at him
Keane is a player we missed out on 10 years ago this summer. THANK YOU Mr Ellis!
I have always rated him and he would be a perfect addition to the squad.
I would say £7 to £8 million is a fair price because he is not a first team require at Spurs.
Let’s not let him get away again!
8 million and its a deal!
This is pie-in-the-sky wish-list stuff, but I would love this:
1. Sell Milner for 15 million + Ireland and Nedum Onuoha.
2. Buy Michael Bradley for 6-8 million.
3. Buy Eduardo, Doyle, or Rodallega for 10-12 million.
We’d be a much better team than we were last season, and we’d only be out a few million pounds.
Nick, i think you’ll find it was Gregory’s decision not to sign Keane. Not Doug’s
Eduardo, Doyle or Rodallega for 10-12m? They’re not worth that (maybe half)… We can get someone much better for that price.
Who?
robbie keane is and for at least the next few seasons in the top 20% of premiership strikers not only does he score goals he makes goals he is wily, hard, skilful, a ballwinner and can create a goal for himself without the involvement of any other player. no one else at villa can do this. if robbie were milners age he would be worth 40/50m anything up to 10m would be a good deal. also although we downgrade scottish football any player who can go to celtic in crisis and score 16 goals in 19 starts is a world beater ask martin o’niell
If i remember correctly? it was john gregory who said keane was not wanted at villa, only to see him score 1 or 2 goals against us in a few meetings down the line. What ever he may be now at 30 he always knew were the net was so in my oppinion would only be an asset.
I’d take him. I don’t care about the past, 6-10m and for the next 3-4 seasons he’ll score 15-20 goals, Gabby’s learning and if he can get Carew to score his usual with a new contract, just between them we score more than we did this last season.
Who you ask? Why not go for Remy? Why not go for Guiza? Cisse? Piquionne only costs a million and he’s still better than those 3.
Piquionne? A 31-year old who scored all of 5 goals for Pompey? Cisse? A clone of Gabby? Neither of them are better than the options I listed.
Guiza and Remy are both better than my options. But both would cost a pretty penny, particularly Remy, whom I highly doubt would come to Villa.
Because they aren’t proven in the English leagues perhaps?
Remy’s wanted by West Ham. I’m positive he’d rather choose us much easier. Cisse is better than Gabby who’s one dimensional and not very talented. 5 goals at Pompey… POMPEY… How many do you expect?
Guiza also failed in Turkey, wouldn’t cost much at all.
[...] SPECULATION: Robbie Keane, was he at Bodymoor Heath There are various rumours doing the rounds and hinted at on various forums that Robbie Keane may have been at Bodymoor [...] [...]
Andrew, mate… there is absolutely no need to take a gamble on someone from another league when we have proven options here. Yes, a gamble on Remy or Guiza could work in our favour but at the same time, they could be pants and we are left with the same options as before. Think Bosko Balaban for example.
Keane, Doyle or Rodellega (my choice out of the three) would absolutely improve our attacking options. Forget the cost, we have to pay what we have to pay for the player. As do other clubs for ours (think Milner and Barry).
Piquionne is a poor footballer, failed badly in France, is cheap because he is rubbish. Remy is untested, a big risk.
Are you talking about Djibril Cisse? the one who failed at Liverpool, didnt light up the league at Sunderland and is now considered a journeyman?
You answered your own suggestion when you said that Guiza failed in Turkey.
