Mysteryman on Villatalk is someone I have the ultimate respect for and I believe when he speaks he speaks with authority and his ITK’s are something we should listen to
So on VT in regards to Milner he has just posted
Not from the Villa so it’s not cast iron but from the City end at the Belfry today at the Alex Ferguson Golf day are saying it’s 28 mill done deal now with City . We will see but I am not surprised at all
This ties in with a couple of reports in last nights papers as well but it has to be said it is reported that James Milner is now on holiday.
Whilst I understand some saying we should not be a selling club is £28m for Milner really a deal we should turn down ?
Time will tell of course !
Aston Villa News 24/7
Sell him. He’s overrated. He was very good for us, I will admit, but with 28m, we can go for spots we really need. Creative midfielder and a finisher who can actually score besides Carew (who we have to keep). Not Eduardo, he sucks in my opinion. We can get over losing Milner, Boussoufa or Rakitic would be my two choices on who we should get to replace. They’re true attacking midfielders, central, not Milner who is a winger and should have played over Downing any day.
please no
Crap. How can we expect to improve if we will sell our best player before each season? First Barry, now Milner.
I will say this: 28 million is a good price when you consider that Silva went for 25.
this will split the fans if true and the key is how we replace him
Call me a homer, but I’d buy Michael Bradley right now. Box-to-box midfielder that has a lot of Milner’s same qualities and keeps getting better. He’ll be the next U.S. captain.
I say snatch there hand off as milner is not worth 28 mil. MON can get a better replacement and still have money in the bank if he use’s the euro market.
“Sell him. He’s overrated. He was very good for us, I will admit, but with 28m, we can go for spots we really need.”
I think you’re miles off there, mate.
I agree £28 mill is superb money, but Milner is going to be a top player for a long while, and how do we replace him?
I love MON, but don’t see that money going on the two top players that we all crave.
We might get one, but not two and £28 mill is not enough anyway.
So we might strengthen a player in one position while weakening another position imo.
I’m well sick over this, as I think he’s making a mistake.
Sadly, I suspect this rumour is true.
I will vomit if we buy Scott Parker as his replacement.
Badger, if we got Ireland for the rumoured £10m would that not be a good and class signing ?
plus Parker and our midfield is stronger
I said at the beginning that I’d be reasonably happy with £25-30 mill plus Ireland. Greedy, but hey, so what? Everton mugged them for Lescott, after all.
It’s not that I think Milner is particularly brilliant (and truth is, he’s not worth £28 mill) , it’s more about his attitude to the game.
He always came across as the sort who you could build a team around. You can’t put a price on that.
And if you can, it’s way more than £28mill imo.
I do see your point though, Ian.
But I’d still rather have Milner plus Ireland/Parker.
‘Badger as a regular reader of this blog you know the very high esteem I hold Milner in you know that I love him
but sometimes an offer is so big as Man U found out you have to accept it
Until Parker’s inevitable injury.
Reluctantly agreed Ian
Well 28 mill is good business if in return we get Ireland on the cheap.
I say 10 mill for Ireland and we have our replacement then 18mill to spend on a striker and a right back.
Firstly, other clubs are now starting to reaslise that we are essentially becoming a selling/feeder club for the top 4 teams. This basically indicates to Young Agbonlahor et al that we have no ambition to compete with these teams and their own contracts mean nothing if indeed they fancy a move.
Secondly, the assumption that MON will plunge headfirst into the european transfer market is deluded. If Milner goes, expect replacements in the NRC/Heskey/Shorey bracket. We cannot allow this player to leave, look at West Ham once Lampard left.
“This basically indicates to Young Agbonlahor et al that we have no ambition to compete with these teams and their own contracts mean nothing if indeed they fancy a move.”
Which player do you really believe that their contract means anything to them?
Jeez
It’s not the end of the world if Milner goes to Man City. Spuds had to put up with the Top four mugging them for players for a few years, Carrick and Berbatov to name two, Keane another.
They got good money for them and have managed to move on despite that.
Getting Milner for 12 and selling for 28 is great business. If we can manage to get Ireland for cheap and then hae 18m to spend as suggested above thats not too bad.
I like the idea of a genuine box to box player, never replaced Ian Taylor….
We have to realistically look at our position in the PL hierarchy we’re established 6th, similar to Spuds a few years ago. to get CL we’ll have to go through a few ups and downs, that much is inevitable.
It’ll be a rollercoaster but better than languishing midtable with Deadly.
Good old Randy saved us, let’s keep the fith for the long term

Clubs move on, Villa sold Barry, next season we reached the final of the League Cup, semi final of the FA and pushed harder for the Champions League. Spurs sold Carrick & Berbatov to ManU, I think a lot of Spurs fans didn’t want that to happen, look at the position they are in now. I bet they are long forgotten. Sell Milner get the money and move on.

I’m sure its paper talk about Gabby… they love to sensationalise… however Milner I have a good rumour that Mancini is set to offer MoN De Jong or Ireland and £18million for Milner…
Aston Villa will ask for no news of the agreement to be released until a replacement has been found… preet much the way you did the Barry deal with us signing Downing the day after..
if the rumour was true then deal
and no way can City keep things quiet, just not their style
A friend of mine was out drinking with Richard Dunnes brother in Manchester about ten days ago and he said the deal had been done at the end of the season.
If that’s true why was the £20m offer rejected?
28 million replaces both Milner AND Petrov.I’d be happy with DeJong and Ireland plus 10m, but you only have to look at the Barry deal and how Dunne was signed weeks later to see we don’t have the foresight to make the sale of Milner dependant on getting our own targets from Citeh a condition of the sale. Think Ireland could end up elsewhere. Of the starting XI, imho MoN only looks at Carew and Milner (if he leaves) as positions needing strengthening, possibly looking at the keeper situation thinking he may need to look soon at that as well. Hopefully it’s on youngish players with a resale value or we get any 29-30 year old players like Keane, Parker etc for decent prices, but as a pessimist where MoN is concerned, I’m thinking Jenas, Parker and Keane and the 28m is gone. If I’m being optimistic we get Ireland, Bentley, Hart and have a couple of mill left over leaving us with a midfield 5 of Petrov sitting deep, with all sorts of options with Ireland, Downing Young and Bentley.
mysteryman is a known troll who is currently running a fake Ashley young Twitter. do not believe him.
If milner moves it will be to liverpool.
