A German view of a visit to Villa Park

Found this great blog post from an Hamburg and long time Villa supporter who made the trip over earlier ths year for the Burnley 5-1 demolition at Villa Park. Think on a boring period of news from Villa Park in the world cup this makes for a good read.

The post is in German but using google translate (chrome extension is really good) you can understand what the author says and the comments he makes about the atmosphere I totally agree with. We face a problem in English grounds in that the seating unless it is a top game say against Blues we really do struggle to generate a decent atmosphere.

Obviously in Germany they are adult enough to allow people to stand and the atmospheres they create in their grounds are fantastic even for what we would class as run of the mill games.

We should learn the lessons over in Germany and obviously allow standing.

  1. the stadium would be the best after emirates , once north stand is done.when i say best , it is in terms of facilities and view.atmosphere wise we are untouchable……

  2. there are times at VP where i do wonder where out amazing support has gone.. our away fans are awesome.. i just dont like how family orientated some football clubs are becoming these days more children = less atmosphere.. if you know what i mean you look at those foreign stadiums they are filled with testosterone lmao men wanting thier team to win, most of the time vp is filled with kids… argh i dont know where im going with this but you get what im trying to say. i just wish we had BETTER support at home more vocal.. i certainly sing my heart out, but only when i’m tipsy ;)

  3. Jason, I personally think there are several factors

    1) terracing, no way can you create an atmosphere sitting down, look at Dortmund for how standing can be safe, noisy and mixed ages

    2) the Two Tier holte, it looks great I love it, one of the few things Ellis can look at with pride (except the cheap finish which Randy sorted). But two tiers does not work, in the lower where I sit you can not hear the upper and vice versa

  4. yeah i gotta agree the times i’ve been in the holte end its just as you describe it… but there really isnt much we can do about that.. i’d love it if the whole stadium was more vocal.. trinity road is allways quiet but i love the view you get from way up there and doug ellis stand is quiet also. its just down to the fans at the end of the day you look at the two milan clubs they have amazing support.

  5. Thank you for linking the post. Must be a funny translation by google.

We enjoyed the trip, the city, Villa Park, the stewards, the match, the hotel. A great experience – thank you Birmingham, thank you Aston Villa.
