Carew waves BYE as we lose a nothing match

Got to be totally honest, at no point was I ‘up’ for the game.

In fact I have never felt so non plussed for a game since the DOL years. It seems from the funeral atmosphere at VP that everyone felt the same and the guys behind just talked about the election all game which says it all really.

On the pitch the players hardly seemed bothered and lets face it is nice to be above Liverpool but whether we finished 5th, 6th or 7th is actually inconsequential. the attitude just seemed to be to finish the season which lets face it was finished last week and you have a feeling a few players had played their last game for Villa.

Hence the title.

You know I am no fan of the con artist called Carew and despite his goals this for me was the 6th game running he had a stinker against defenders who battled against him and not fall away. Hence on about 70 minutes when he was subbed and applauded all the ground o his way out I certainly got the feeling that was goodbye.

I did not stick around for the ‘lap of honour’ but I read and was told he was waving in many people’s view goodbye. I will be one of the few who will not be unhappy at that.

9 months gone quickly, all over now, we can reflect on a season of progression in many areas but today showed the same old fault of not breaking down teams at home and that is what we must correct.

Over to you Randy and Martin.

  1. Nobody is leaving, nobody valuable. Maybe Sidwell, Heskey, Harewood and the likes but NO, not Milner or anyone else of his importance.

    Stop stirring sh*t… we’re only going to get stronger!

  2. calm down all he is saying is carew (who apart from goals which half of them was pens has been frustratingly hopeless) nothing mentioned about milner

  3. Our top goalscorer last 3 seasons. Why do people want him to go? If he gets a season without big injuries he will score more than 20 goals!
    I sure hope he`s here next seasong along a new striker.

  4. Simon, this season is all that counts, 10 LEAGUE goals, forget ones against Palace, Reading

    and how many penalties 4 ?

    poor

  5. Part of me knows what you mean Ian, but Simon calls it right imo.
    Unless we get a better striker in to replace him, he’s still the man for me.
    He just looks so more likely to score than Heskey does, for example.
    Get that useless dick out before Carew is what you should be complaining about the most.

  6. Top scorer, fan favorite, unplayable on his day. I would definitely rather he stayed. Heskey is the one who should go – an older and poorer in every way version of Carew. But to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if both of them left.

    By the way ianrobo Carew didn’t even play for the first bit of the season, Heskey was the one starting.

  7. I was at Villa Park today, the match was dreadful and
    Villa were even worse…I stayed to watch the lap of honour and both myself and my son Morley were convinced that John Carew was waving his ‘goodbye’s’ to us Villa fans. I can’t explain why, you had to be there I guess…It was exactly the same last season with Gareth Barry you could just tell he as saying ‘goodbye’ to the fans inside the ground…

    The following to go in the close season :
    * Heskey
    * Carew
    * Sidwell
    * Bouma
    * Harewood
    * Shorey
    * Baye

    Up the Villa!!!

  8. I know what you mean.
    It does seem somehow obvious when someone is going..

    I suspect you might have forgot Luke in your list though.

    A big concern for me is how much we’re going to get for that lot.

    Strikes me that’s a lot of money lost.

  9. The way Mon has screwed Carew around and attitudes like yours i wouldn’t blame J.C for wanting to leave . If we didn’t play Carew Mon would have started Heskey every game and i reckon that would have given us a 8th or 9th position . Without Carews goals we would certainly be below Everton and Pool . You can’t say a bad word about the man who frustrates us every week with naive tactics bad man management negative 2nd half displays and insulting remarks about the best fans in the country but you are constantly having a go at a man who gets crap service . Balls flying over his head all day or going straight to the keeper . In a team like Spurs or Citeh Carew would be getting at least 20 goals a season .

    • Carew is not good enough to get into those sides, why do you think Carew has only ever played for the middle ranking teams (at the time), Lyon, Villa, Valencia, why has no big team ever brought him ?

  10. Talk about obsessed, Ian. How about MON waves BYE?

  11. He won the La Liga title twice with Valencia (fairly big team) Lost the2001 Champions League Final on penalties .. Knocked Arsenal out Champs League with his goals on 2 occasions . Moved to Aston Villa who i always regarded as a big team but that might be my Claret and Blue prejudice . Top scorer for Villa 2 out of the last 3 seasons the season he didn’t finish top he was out for a few months with a bad injury but still scored 11 goals from 25 outings .. So Robbo you don’t seem to just dislike him it seems like you really hate him, Why the hatred .

    • I don;t hate him, just think he is a lazy git who has made the best of his talent by a long stretch.

      The past two months he has been awful but because he scores he gets away with it

      however and I will try this later I suspect our games to points ratio is better when he does not play

      said it before and say it again he is nothing but a flat track bully, give him a rubbish defence he will rip them apart. against decent defences he is too easy to mark, poor first touch (myth is that he has a ‘good touch for a big man’) and too slow in the first 5 yards that matters

      I am in a minority I know but the last few home games the mutterrings about Carew have been getting louder and louder.

      there is a reason Heskey comes on for him at around 75mins and that is because he can no longer complete a match

  12. Carew is noted for being a religious Christian person and often makes donations to charity. He also contributes to organizations like Soccer Against Crime, MOT and Youth Against Violence and was awarded the Kniksen award as Kniksen of the year in both 2005 and 2007. Since joining Aston Villa, Carew is noted for visiting children in hospitals around Birmingham and supporting Villa’s initiative to donate from the payroll towards hospital running costs.

    Honours

  13. Seems like a decent human .

  14. Being

  15. Just wanted to say i’m proud to be a villa fan again. These players have taken us on one hell of a ride this season. Ok, things didn’t go to plan in the cups but we were beaten by the 2 best sides in the country. Both games were close even though the chelsea score3-0 suggests otherwise. We have been so close this yr and it will get better next season providing Mr Lern egives manager the money to strenghten. Notice i said strenghten the squad. We must keep hold of our best players if we want to continue improving. Time will tell i guess but if it transpires that we sell our best players then we will just have to replace them with better players. Wishful thinkin’ i know but it can be done if the chairman lets the manager spend what he gets for the players we sell. I hope we can hold onto Milner and yuong but we may have to sell one of and I know who i want to stay at Villa. WELL DOVE LADS, THANKS FOR THE SEASON U ALL PUT IN AND THANKS MARTIN IF IT’S TO BE UR LAST WITH US………

  16. I forgot to say that we are a much better side when we play with pace. Big John Carew, bless him, just dosen’t give us that. He’s scored goals for us this season but he slows us down and we find it hard to break teams down at home playing so slowly. I hope we can get a striker with real skill and pace to take some of the pressure off Gabby. I was reading something O’Neill said on Gabby the other day. He said Gabby needs to push on nxt yr and get 20 goals plus each season from now on. O’Neill said that Gabby could do it easily but he has to score more scrappy and one on one goals. Personally, i thought we were a better side when we played 4-5-1. Gabby was much better when playing thru the middle. Chelsea scored 103 goals in the league this yr. If we’d had just an extra 20 goals in the leagfue this yr we could’ve done some serious damage in the Lge but it cost us not having that real top striker and a playmaker in the middle. We could cope without the playmaker, Downing could do that job eassily but the top striker is a must in the close season…..COME ON MR LERNER PLEASE!! SPEND THE MONEY

  17. I don’t think Gabby is good enough ‘yet’ to be the main man but i hope he proves me wrong next season . Would like Mon to surprise us and bring in the next Andy Gray or Brian Little .

  18. Well personally,i think Carew is the best central striker at the club,tho he does seem a bit inconsistant,brilliant one game,hopeless the next,but then we’ve got Heskey who never has a shot let alone score goals and Gabby who for me is better defensively for the team tham offensively,a headless chicken without a trick !
    For me .we need two new strikers next season !

  19. This blog is terrible, stop spreading negative shit like this around. You won’t be sad to see him go? You fickle c**t! You don’t say stuff like that when he’s scoring do you?

  20. Actually Steven I do, some of us rate players others do not, as for being negative check out my other posts, very supportive of MON and most players

    I dislike players who are blaggers, Milner for example puts in 100% each game. If he has the odd poor game you know he will never give up

    Carew is the opposite, his good games are few and far between, I posed this question to someone else but when was the last time he had a really good League game, possibly Bolton ??

    As for effort at times he is barely strolling and we can move on with a player who can no longer perform for 90 minutes
