Gabby missed badly as we blow it

When I saw the team sheet today and realised that Gabby had not recovered from his groin strain I was worried. For me the attacking side of our team needs Gabby or someone similar to play, there is no doubt in my mind that Delfouneso should have started and I am very disappointed he did not come on after around 60 minutes. MON is one stubborn guy and his refusal to bring on Delf may have cost us three badly needed points, especially in the light of the Spurs result a couple of hours later.

It is getting frustrating that when we seem to be on the verge of something we manage to find ways of not taking advantage on it and find ways of basically blowing it. At 1-0 today we should have set ourselves up for the win an yet somehow through dreadful defending we nearly lost the game, and yet our defence has been the strong point of this season.

Work that out.

In the context of today Albrighton did enough to get a starting place against Sunderland, if Gabby is not fit then we have to play Delf alongside Carew to give us pace up front, of course there is no doubt Young should be in at RB but where was Delph ? missing off the bench for the first time when he should looking to start on Wednesday.

I can understand some of the frustration today but we HAVE to get behind the team even if we do not agree with some of MON’s call’s and the restlessness was simply not called for in the second half an we have to cut that out if we all want the success we crave.

There is NO other option.

  1. Even I could not defend Heskey’s poor performance today, your right, where was Delfouneso??

I mean if the large target man/pacey forward combination has been the secret to our success then Nathan should have started, the crowd knew it, calling for him on about 60 minutes, then what does MON go and do, bring of Downing for Sidwell???????

    Madness!

It would appear to me, that having taken one good step forward midweek against the lattics, we have taken two back, considering spurs won today.

I hope that from now to the end of the season, it won’t be a matter of every other game becoming a CRUCIAL game! They are all important, especially with the likes of Spurs still picking up points.

We can only hope money bags city don’t win tomorrow!!

  2. Well Sidwell came on and set up the equaliser and actually I though he did fine

For Sunderland we should see changes and lets hope so eh, Albrighton for Downing , Young for Cuellar and Delf for Heskey

but got to say I thought Heskey did fine

  3. Fabian Delph twisted his knee this week. However concentration was poor today amongst other things ! I do feel though that if the fans hadn’t called for Delf he may have got a run out ! Sometimes it does not do to try and dictate to a man who will not be dictated to ! Ask any woman she will tell you the same !!!!!!

  4. thanks for the info on Delph and agree about that on Delf, MON would never want to be seen to be dictated to by the fans

  5. I suppose when you are talking about Gabby, you are referring to the threat and concern rather than the actual scoring capability. As much as i love Gabby he needs to score more, but having him on the pitch gives us an extra dimension in that it allows us to stretch teams

If we continue to play Heskey and Big John upfront in his absence, then its the midfield where we need to make changes. With those two you are looking at more balls in the box from wide, having three wide/ creative players leaves us vulnerable. I would much prefer to see Milner and young playing on their natural sides and Petrov partnered with Delph/Sidwell or Reo. Yes it makes us more predictable but at least the team is setup to play to its strengths.

when the two big men are playing, I would also consider changing Carlos for Young as i think the latter puts in a better cross

If Delfouneso plays then the changes don’t need to be made

  6. It was a cracking cup final type game yesterday. Wolves played very well. Carlos had a strange off day but Young and Carew rocked. It ain’t over yet and any booing at this stage or any of our season stinks! UTV!

  7. Watching the villans play is giving me high blood pressure. Everytime i watch them on telly, they are either lose or play badly. i must be jinxed!!!

Cuellar, Warnock and Downing were bad. Could warnock and downing be affected by the presence of the england manager?? The three points gap has come fiver….

  8. Watching the villans play is giving me depression . I’ve been getting excited about Villa for nearly 40 years just to be let down nearly every time . My Grandad hated Villa in the end because they always let him down and he died 20 years ago . Everybody knows what the problem is except for one certain Irishman . If we had a Crowd of 39,951 .. 39,950 would know what was wrong with our team and Martin obviously wouldn’t .

  9. And the person who left early :-)

  10. Need to take sunderland to the cleaners on wednesday ,but with bent on target again its no easy task. If we find ourselves infront as we were against wolves; its time to finish them off this time instead of letting them back in the game.
