PHIL DOWD you cheated VILLA
Simple, when Gabby when through on 5 minutes on goal and was tripped only two results were possible
1) a penalty – scored brilliantly by Milner
2) Vidic to be sent off
Phil Dowd BOTTLED the vital decision and from then on Man Utd had all the fates in front of them and Villa were doomed to lose.
It was not even a difficult call to make, it was crystal clear as to what should happen and yet somehow Dowd never even booked Vidic yet even sent him off and we knew what would happen then. Yep Vidic goes off and a forward would have had to make way, because Dowd was scared to make the correct decision a few minutes later the inevitable happened.
Owen scored when in all probability he would have been the player to make way for Vidic and from then we knew Rooney would have been the player to score.
Because lets be clear we would have gone on to win that game and my contempt for Dowd can not be emphasied in any stronger terms that this
HE CHEATED US OUT OF THE FINAL
Bet nothing happens to him though, imagine roles reversed eh ?
I am very very angry tonight because we did not deserve that ref and that call we deserved far more.
BTW NOT EVEN a YELLOW CARD
CHEAT !
COME ON YOUR LIONS
This is likely to be my last blog post before the game.
So sitting here with train and match ticket ready, camera in coat and anticipation high there is little else left for us to say
Just enjoy it tomorrow, weather will be lousy but all that matters is the result
Hope in your heart, a few pints and expect no voice left, give it your all, leave nothig behind.
MON will be telling the players this we do our bit on the pitch
Yipee aye Ah, HOLTEENDERS IN THE SKY
England Squad announced – 4 Villa players included
Stewart Downing, James Milner, Emile Heskey, Stephen Warnock have all been included in the England squad just announced for the Egypt friendly on Wednesday.
Good news for all of them and clearly all have an excellent chance to go to South Africa.
Really disappointed for Ash Young not to be in the squad, he is on form, he is creating and playing well, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Theo Walcott are NOT is form and NOT being picked regularly, this goes against what Fabio Capello has said before and he is being shortsighted on his picks.

Weather for Wembley poor, forecast for game, very good
First the public service
A storm is brewing over London (not Bridge vs Terry !!) and heading to Wembley for Sunday and it is going to be very wet and windy.
However the forecast is very good for the game and Villa in particular. Over the years we have had an inferiority complex with Man Utd but the result at Old Trafford earlier this season has changed the team and more important the fan’s psyche. We now go into Sunday’s game on an excellent run of form, unbeaten in 12 and 2010, scoring goals a plenty in the cups and knowing as so called underdogs the pressure is off us.
When the pressure is off we are capable of playing some stunning stuff and whilst we know exactly our team (see Burnley) as it appears Petrov is fine but Man Utd’s team is any guess.
You know what I do not give a damm who they played.
In 1994 we went into the game with Man U chasing a domestic treble and arguably a stronger team than now and we blitzed them because we had no fear and that is key for Sunday. If we play with fear then it is game over, however play with freedom, let Ash free and you know what we will win it.
The mass hordes of Villa fans depart Birmingham on Sunday by coach, car and train and I really sense there is a strong sense of belief and destiny in the fans which we do not see often. The fans and team are united and we expect every many to do his job.
Rob El Cid posted this on Villatalk, let battle begin
We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have had before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering.
You ask, What is our policy?
I will say; “It is to wage war, on the pitch, with all our might and with all the strength that McGrath can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of football crime. That is our policy.”
You ask, What is our aim?
I can answer with one word: Victory – victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is nothing.”
View from the North Stand – Rob is very positive this week
Years ago, I remember laughing when someone suggested football should switch to a “summer” game due to bad winters causing postponements and fixture chaos. Now I’m an old phart I totally agree with this……the weather this year as royally pissed me off. Can’t remember the last time I went to Villa Park and didn’t need 17 layers of clothing.
Summer football would be fantastic for 2 reasons;
1. Just a Villa shirt, no need for woolies and coats
2. All the clunge wear next to nothing
I’m sure reason 2 would sway everyone to my way of thinking.
****************
Man Ure were taken to the cleaners at Goodison yesterday – a 3-1 defeat was just a bit unexpected. If Everton can do it, WE can do it.
**************
Just got back from our resounding victory over a more-than-doomed Burnley. Funny old game as Piss Pot Greavsie might say………Villa were fucking awful for half an hour and deserved to be trailing. Then we got an equaliser and we never looked back. And a shit-hot spell of 4 goals in 12 second half minutes really put the Whippet Shaggers to the sword. Shame we had to concede a second in injury time as we’d have gone above Liverplop in the table. Apparently their 0-0 with Man Citeh was one of the worst games of the season. They are just keeping that 4th place warm for us.
**************
Saw a bit of Wigan – Spurszzz in the Holte Suite after. Fucking hell they are lucky bastards; Defoe was absolutely miles offside when he scored the opener but the lino must have been texting someone or playing with his gonads because he didn’t raise his flag. As if “Dirty” Arry and his band of ex Pompey cut price sales need any more fucking jam.
************
At least things went well at Craven Cottage. It looked like a typical B’lose jam fest as they went in front thanks to an OG. What a bunch of useless fucktards their strikers are. Choo Choo and Jerome have about 5 goals between ‘em, absolutely laughable. I’m still puzzled how they have managed to fluke so many 1-0 and 2-1 wins. But not today, Hong Kong Phooey, not today. I laughed quite a bit when I heard Zamora had buried a 91st minute free kick to give Foolham all 3 points. In fact I’m still laughing now. Have that you dirty inbred bastards.
**************
Man Yure warmed up for the Cup final by tonking Wet Spam 3-0. Not that I expected anything else. Sir Fergyscum played a few second stringers but Shrek hit a brace and Golden Bollocks Owen got the third. Enjoy it while you can, fuckers, ’cause we’re gonna shut you out on Sunday ( I am now religiously crossing my fingers, toes, eyes, ears and testicles for good luck)
*************
Have you seen the pictures of that retard Hong Kong Phooey in his disgraceful fur coat? What in the name of fuck does he look like? I know football club chairman like to spend a bit and look the part but Willy Carson Yeung’s animal skin overcoat looks pathetic. No doubt he got the skins from his homeland where we all know that no one within 200 miles of HK has a pet dog any more. Barbaric bastard.
************
Well that wasn’t too difficult – Villa dispose of Colin Wanker’s lot with a 3-1 win. The editor of this site must have cheered through gritted teeth when Big John scored two spotkicks, hahahaaa! Only Petrov and Heskey were missing from the squad so it was a very strong line-up. Guzan played and was finally beaten by a penalty…….I reckon if he’d saved it he would have played on Sunday, now I reckon Hellboy will get the nod. Steve Sidwell came on for his customary Ginger Ninja routine. Atmosphere was a lot better than the Burnley game too.
And as we got back to the Holte Suite we learned that Jealous Guys Olbiyun had lost at home to Reading, oh dear, how sad, never mind. That means a trip to Sunny Berkshire for the Villa travelling army.
Fulham, Pompey, Stoke and Villa for the semis please!!!!
*************
That’s yer lot for this week…………see y’all at Wembley and Up The Villa
There is only ONE Randy Lerner – The Quiet American
One stark contrast on Sunday ta the Carling Cup final will be to look to the directors box and notice the tale of two American owners.
In the RED corner (or should that be yellow & green) will be the Glazier family. Possibly the most hated people inside of Old Trafford and that probably includes any scousers. They have managed despite the club still winning and in contention to ensure the club has £700m in debt and for many do not have the resources to compete at the very top level. This is despite record turnover and large operating profits, which get wiped out by the large amount of interest Man Utd. have to play to service in effect Glazier’s own debt, that just can not be right.
So in the CLARET & BLUE corner we have the quiet American, Randy Lerner. Posted elsewhere what he has done for the club in just under 4 years but this season is a vindication of his and MON’s policy of what I call ‘organic growth’. We had a long way to when he took over from Doug Ellis the club had rarely been at such a low point. However through player investment and steady use of home grown and cheap players MON has fashioned a team on the verge of the most successful season since 1996 and possibly since 1982 if we get ot the FA cup.
When (for there is no doubt of that) we lift the Carling Cup on Sunday Randy will be standing there proudly seeing the start of his desire for success for the club. He will deserve all the credit going (along with MON of course) for the success and he will deserve
There is only ONE Randy Lerner
being sung around Wembley as the Yellow and Green masses troop out to contemplate interest payments.
Petrov to MISS Carling Cup Final
According to Sky Sports News last night Petrov is unlikely to play in the cup final.
Tsvet on H&V who has good links to Petrov though just posted
A friend got a text from him saying he’s coughing a lot and is feeling very weak, but is getting better since yesterday. I reckon he’d be OK for the final.
I hope this is true because no matter how much I rate Delph the game is an occassion for experience and Petrov deserves his final spot.
FA Quarter Final – Reading A – 7th March 13:45
So we play Reading a week Sunday, and I am quite glad at that, a derby game is always bloody difficult. Reading have done very well to progress as far as they have and our recent record down there is mixed.
Obviously though this is a winnable game now for the Semi Final and one hell of a season building up
To confirm game is live on ITV Sunday 7th March KO 13:45
This means that the home game against Sunderland is now postponed.
Are you watching Gareth Barry, HA HA HA
Before I get onto the main substance of this blog, lets just review today’s game.
For the first half that is possibly the best football I have seen from Villa, fluid, ball to feet and nary a long ball in sight, how it was just 1-0 god knows !!
For the second half we seem to be sat back, probably relaxing for the cup final but even then created chances. Probably for the that reason we let Palace back in, however we stepped up a gear, got two clear penalties and game over. The likes of Downing, Delph, Gabby and Young were very good. I also have to say Carew played his best for a long time despite what some are saying on the forums and remeber I am not his greatest fan !!
However after the game we learnt Man City had been dumped out of yet another cup competition and that is pure Karma for what Gareth Barry did do. He did leave for so called chance at glory and yet since he has left we have got better and better and the likes of Downing and Delph for the future look like offering far more than Barry did at Villa, at least Downing takes shots !!
In most cases the grass is never greener and now Barry is finding this out to his cost. Remember Gareth where you are now, one point above us and no chance of a trophy, look at us, one final, a quarter final and one point behind 4th. This is the best season since Brian Little’s of 1996 and he has missed out of it (whether we would have done as well with him is moot point) and I wonder what he is thinking tonight and when he speaks to ex colleagues ?
all his own fault and we are better for it.
6 defeats all season, one final, one quarter final and one point off 4th, fantastic
So now onwards and upwards to Wembley then a week later onto Reading, BRING IT ON !
Excellent news as Manchester United confirm Rio is out
Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Rio Ferdinand has had another back spasm and is out for the Carling Cup final
“He tweaked his back in training and he won’t be ready for Sunday,” said Ferguson.
“It is unfortunate for him that he’s going to miss a couple of game
This is great news for us as Vidic is unlikely to play against us after such a long time out and we have to fancy our chances facing a Man U back 4 featuring Evans and Brown. Also talking of their defence I do not rate Rafael that highly and Neville is on his last legs. With our pace on the wide open grass at Wembley we should be able to run them around.
No clues tonight from Fergie on any other possible team news but after the Man City semi he did say he would play a different (weaker) team in the final.
Crystal Palace to face the power of Delf
Well I hope that this is the case and Nathan starts tomorrow. I have seen enough of him this season in cameos and starts to know he is the real deal and whilst I understand why he was left out for the first game, for tomorrow there is no excuse.
Clearly with the Carling Cup final on the horizon we would expect a few changes to the team. For certain Petrov with a virus is out, Gabby after taking a knock against Burnley I expect not to be risked. Also Luke Young will certainly return to probably replace Dunne and of course Delph for Petrov. The big question will be is whether one or all of Downing, Milner and Ash Young will be rested, that is not clear at the moment and MON has been evasive on what he may do.
What we expect from Palace will be a fully committed side we saw at Selhurst, but they are now struggling with fitness, down to the last 19 professionals and maybe the lift that Warnock gave them after administration is wearing out. The rumours still surround Warnock and QPR and many people think this could be his last game in charge at Palace if they lose, obviously lets hope that is the case from a Villa point of view.
So we hope for a comfortable win tomorrow, no injuries or sending offs of course and future development of Delf and Delph. Win tomorrow and February then starts to look a very good month indeed with the Carling Cup of course to cap it off.
We underrate our own players too much
This week the Times produced a list of the most consisent Premier League players based on a forumla. For some Villa fans the results may be surprising but for some of us we should not be shocked.
It can be said that statistics can show anything you want them to but Villa fans should be delighted to see Petrov and Milner at the top of the midfielder list and Gabby at the top of the forward list.
I get very frustrated by some of the things I read and hear in the Holte about our players. Where I stand Gabby gets sheds load of abuse and I often wonder if the guys slagging him off often watch the same game. Gabby gives his all for Villa and when he is out we miss him far more than we almost any player.
When we brought Milner I was shocked at how many fans thought he was overpriced. Search the tags under Milner and you will just see how much I did and clearly this season with 11 assists and 4 goals he is proving that £12m was a steal.
Then we come to Petrov. ever since he came to the club he never really convinced people but after last season when he won every player of the year award going I really believed that he had won people over. However almost as soon as the season started the moaning began about him, despite the fact he wins more tackles than most and very rarely gives the ball away.
However it seems to be our nature to under rate our own and moan and whinge but this season the proof is in the pudding and from now on we should not hear any moans at VP just 100% support for the team that MON picks.
Petrov sent home with a virus
Sky Sports News have just said that Petrov has been sent home from training with a virus.
This will obviously make him a major doubt for tomorrow, though I doubt he would have played anyway.
But the concern has to be for Wembley on Sunday
England U-21 Call up for Nathan Delfouneso
Excellent news for Nathan Delfouneso as he is called up for the first time for the England U-21 squad.
Along with Fabian Delph he is in the squad for the Euro Qualifier for the match against Greece at the Keepmat stadium on Wednesday 3rd March.
This is a well deserved call up for Nathan hopefully he will learn from the experience and get some minutes on the pitch.
National press tipping Villa for 4th
A few days I blogged about the race for 4th and that we have the easier run-in when compared to the other three challengers for 4th spot. Winning against Burnley has helped us a lot but now we are getting (unwanted ?) attention from the national press that we do in fact have a great chance.
Whilst watching Sky Soccer Saturday they were discussing the race and Paul Merson tipped us for 4th based on the run in’s.
Both the Daily Mail and Patrick Barclay Times have also tipped us as well.
The Mail’s summary is
Martin O’Neill’s side have that crucial ingredient – momentum. Last season his team was ubnbalanced, heavy in attacking threat but flimsy at the back – that’s no longer the case. With Richard Dunne and James Collins shoring up their once leaky defence, the Vilans now have the backbone to win a trophy this season … and seal that Champions League spot. FINAL POSITION: 4th
whilst Barclay says, writing before Sunday and getting it spot on
If Liverpool seize their moment, the view that the return of Torres from injury might complete a revival will be strengthened. My hunch is for a draw, plus a Villa win at home to Burnley and a sustained surge by O’Neill’s team towards the prize that eluded them last time.
Forecast: 4th, Villa; 5th, Liverpool; 6th, City; 7th, Tottenham.
I am not allowed to reprint the fixtures but the Mail article shows the remaining fixture list and there is no doubt we have the much easier run in. what is going to be crucial are the home results against the likes of Sunderland, Blues, Wolves, Blackburn and Everton
get 12 points or more and we are well on track for 4th
The Road to Wembley – 1957 by John Lerwill
John Lerwill (John’s site) the writer behind the fabulous Villa Chronicles has written the following piece with his personal recollections of the 1957 FA Cup win.
Worth reminding everyone of this journey with the Carling Cup final on the horizon.
Thanks John for allowing me to post this on this blog.
Villa’s winning of the FA Cup in 1957, we then thought, would presage a new era of triumph in Villa’s history. It was then 37 years since Villa had last won a major trophy, but though we have achieved some wonderful triumphs since then it is astonishing to think that it is now 53 years since we last won ‘the Cup’ in those black and white days of 1957.
After overcoming Luton in the first round without too much difficulty, the Villa then encountered lower level opposition in the form of Bristol City and Middlesbrough, but even so, both those teams possessed England centre-forwards of the ilk of John Atyeo and Brian Clough. It was the magnificent Jimmy Dugdale that sufficiently subdued both those strikers to help pave the way towards the sixth round.
By this time, the players’ jerseys had been appended with the Villa crest for the first time that century, and someone had concocted a rather corny cup song (to the tune ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’), which was:-
It’s a long way to get to Wembley,
It’s a long way to go,
It’s a long way to get to Wembley,
But we’ll get there, I know!
Goodbye Bristol City,
Goodbye Middlesbrough,
It’s a long, long way to get to Wembley,
But we’ll get there, I know!
However, though the earlier opposition were not exactly pushovers, the sixth round onwards was tough going. For the first time in my life I traveled to see Villa play in an away match, this being to the ground of another claret and blue side, Burnley.
They possessed some fine players, and the great Jimmy McIlroy of Burnley wrote the following accurate account of their 1957 Cup encounter:
“Against the Villa, we took an early lead, and without playing really well, held it until a few minutes from the end of the game. Then, the most dangerous man in soccer at converting the pass to the far-post, Peter McParland, popped up to head the equaliser from his favourite position. But there should never have been any replay. In the first ten minutes or so, I squared two passes across the face of the goal, both taken by Ian Lawson in his stride. From very close range, Ian side-footed the ball wide each time.
The pitch at Villa Park [in the replay] was in a shocking state. There were pools of water on the surface, and where there was no water, there was mud – gallons of the stuff! In one corner, in fact, there was a patch of filth giving off a most nauseating odour, causing us to wonder if this famous football ground had been used for sewage disposal. Thus was the stage set in terrible conditions for one of the most vital Cup-ties in the history of either club. Aston Villa at that time were being assailed on all sides for their vigourous style of football. They tackled hard, used their weight to the maximum advantage, and generally bothered little with the frills of soccer: although their manager Mr Eric Houghton repeatedly refuted charges that Villa were over-robust, there is no denying they were formidable opposition. In marked contrast, Burnley were a team of flyweights, with one of the smallest forward lines in the entire League.
The Midlanders … with goals coming from Johnny Dixon and inevitably, my old Irish pal Peter McParland. … The match was not a classic, my main recollection of it being the rather odd-looking playing strip sported by the Burnley players. We wore navy blue shirts and navy blue shorts, and with the referee in his customary all-black outfit it was not surprising that he was given more passes than anyone in our team! We wondered at the time why return passes never came. Fortunately, he changed into a purple shirt at half-time, although I am still not certain whether this simplified or further confused the issue!”
Again I was able to travel to see the semi-final against Jimmy Dugdale’s old team – the Baggies – at Molineux. Jimmy had gained a cup-winner’s medal with them in ’54 and in this thrilling encounter again brought out the best from him and the entire Villa defence, especially Nigel Sims in goal. He was a wonder goalkeeper in those days and was accepted as being Villa’s best in that position since the great Sam Hardy.
The Baggies played some wonderful stuff … but it was again ‘Supermac’ that magnificently kept us in it to force a replay at St. Andrews the following Thursday. And there, with some help from Ronnie Allen’s injury, my father saw Villa get through thanks to Billy Myerscough, a latecomer to the centre-forward spot in place of the usual Derek Pace, who would miss the Final.
So, it was on to Wembley and the match with Manchester United; the great ‘Busby Babes’ – Edwards, Pegg, Charlton, Byrne and the others. I’d seen Villa lose in the league at home to the Babes 3-1 that season, but Villa had drawn at Old Trafford in the return fixture as their confidence picked up on a long Cup run. The scene was set for a great Final (we hoped).
The Final came round, and we prepared to watch it on ‘black and white’ TV. Manchester United had already won the league, and were going for the ‘double’. Villa had been the last club to win the double way back in 1896-97 (exactly 60 years before), and so we hoped that United would be stopped in their tracks. Peter McParland was at the height of his game at that time and had scored some explosive goals that season… Would he win it? Well, he did… he scored both Villa’s goals in the 2-1 win, but, very sadly, accidentally put out United’s goalkeeper after only 15 minutes of the match. United were effectively down to 10 men for 75% of the match in those days before substitutions. Nevertheless, Villa played some good football in the second half, and made their pressure and fitness tell.
Villa’s greatly loved captain, Johnny Dixon, was a worthy winner, and Villa’s only Brummie, Peter Aldis, revealed a smile that told all. That Villa side was not a classic side of old, but they were superfit, they were team men, and their key positions in that Cup run were filled by outstanding players – Sims, Dugdale, Dixon and McParland. In reality, though, they all played their hearts out and every one of them was a true winner.
In the space of four years I had actually seen both the Queen’s Coronation and the Villa win the FA Cup on the telly. Four years before, I hardly knew what TV was – and neither did many others!
KICK OFF for Palace game – 8PM
Please be aware that the KO time for the replay on Wednesday is now 20:00 for streaming on FA.COM
Play poorly and score 5, how strange
So, what a very strange game. Frankly all but for 20 mins we were rubbish, in fact more than that, abysmal might be the better word. However like all good teams we saw a weakness and exploited it for a magical 20 minutes to win 3 points and put us amongst the top 4 teams with some ‘easy’ games to come.
At 1-1 with 10 minutes of the 2nd half gone I was calling for Carew instead of Heskey, that is how bad it was. We could barely get our game together and the first half was as bad a first half as we have seen at Villa under MON. We could barely string passes together and looked like a relegation side, yet once Downing gave us the lead we looked a completely different side, one that finally had believed in itself.
Then we saw the real Villa, one where down the wings we totally exposed Burnley and for once were very clinical in front of goal. You would hope that this result now gives us the impetus to move forward and actually believe in ourselves as an attacking force.
With the other results today it means the whole battle for top 4 has become a 4 horse race and with the fixtures to come we have to be very confident that unlike last season we can push on for the rest of the season and grab the spot. when we get the belief we can be a very potent force it seems sometimes we lack the belief to do that and if this gives us the boost then today may be the start of a very successful last few months.
No defeat in 2010 is unlike the other MON seasons at the same stage and maybe being slightly defensive but with attacking poential will prove to be pivotal, we hope so.
UPDATED, Match ON – Snow warning for Burnley game
If anyone just saw the BBC Weather forecast they have a severe weather warning out for heavy snow in the West Midlands for early tomorrow morning.
The forecaster has just said a possibility of up to 10CM for our area, it is the last thing we want for the game to be cancelled tomorrow and lets just hope it will not be as bad as that.
Official warning from the Met Office
Sleet and snow will spread eastwards across parts of the West Midlands and northwest England during Sunday morning, giving widespread accumulations of 2 to 6 cm, and locally up to 10 cm. This will also lead to widespread ice on roads and pavements.
The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads.
Issued at: 1749 Sat 20 Feb
UPDATED – 08:45 – Snow has fallen, I live 3 miles from Villa Park and around 4-5 cm of the stuff has fallen. However already it is starting to melt away, think we will be all OK
UPDATED – 09:45 – Official Site has confirmed match definitely on
Wembley hopes increase
Did you watch the Everton/Man U game earlier today ?
Simply they were awful and it was their first team choice and showed totally how over reliant they are on Rooney. Every attack comes through him, they used to have great strength on the wings but no more. In fact without Rooney I would say the present Man U team would struggle to be even top 4, they have been unable to strengthen with top quality and the cracks are showing.
We have shown in the past two games against them just how to shut them down through keeping Rooney under lose control and our strong defence allows that. Everton today also showed just how you can score past them, the problem for us is that it is likely that both Vidic and Ferdinand are going to play.
There is of course another factor in that Ferguson has indicated that he will not play the same type of team that he did against Man City in the Semi’s that is another boost for us.
On the forums there is far too much negativity surrounding the result, people seem to think playing Man U is a bad pick but we have shown all season we are able to raise our game against the better sides and wins at Old Trafford and Anfield simply prove this. As pointed out above there is no reason to be negative, in fact quite the opposite, we should be going down there in a weeks time full of hope, given we do not have some kind of injury disaster.
First trophy win since 1996, you bet !
The ancient battle of the Claret and Blues resume
Back in 1888 two teams played each other in the first ever football league season. One team was vastly more successful but given the size of Burnley they did not do to bad as well.
So for the first time in my supporting history Burnley play a league game at Villa Park with an abysmal away record. On Sunday this resumption of an ancient rivalry resumes and it is obviously a game we must win to ensure that the race for fourth stays a 4 horse race. In fact with Liverpool and Man City playing after our game it is clear a win will put us right up amongst the positions for 4th.
Therefore I expect nothing less than a full strength team for this game. If everyone is fit the only real debate is exactly who will play at RB, Luke Young or Carlos Cuellar. I like Cuellar, no emphaise that further I really rate him and he has played really well, However at this stage we need a proper right back, we have to win the game and Luke simply HAS to play.
The only other area is who would play alongside Gabby. With Heskey breaking down every game, Carew playing like he has already left then is it time for Nathan Delfouneso ? MON said today
Delph and for that matter, Nathan Delfouneso, have got wonderful ability. I expect those two boys to be really, big big players for us next season.
I totally agree and the only reason I would not play Delph tomorrow is that he is needed for Wednesday. However Delfouneso can start against Burnley’s slow centre backs and I believe he would be excellent against them and provide a real threat and more importantly goals.
whatever team is picked we must win and hopefully get a few goals, the next month is vital for our league ambitions and anything less against a team with only one point away from Turf Moor is just unacceptable.
Villa vs Crystal Palace game live on FA.com
The FA have announced that the replay game next week is live on the FA stream next week
However at only £10 for adults and £5 for kids at VP I would still say the best place to go is at Villa Park and I would say for Season Ticket holders who would want to go to any probable FA Cup final it would be a must go match.
