Transfer window closing, thoughts and ideas
The Transfer window closes Monday February 1st at 17:00
For all teams it has been a very quiet window, likely to be due to the current economic climate and frankly the bonkers world of football finance.
For Villa therefore it has also been a very quiet window with only Craig Gardner leaving for Blues and remarkable for Villa very few actual rumours. In fact it seems from MON we have heard to expect few moves unless we sell and I doubt the £3.5m from Blues is hardly enough to make a difference.
We also seemed to hear very strong rumours about Habib Beye leaving however with the news about Warnock’s injury can not now see that happening and of course recalled Shorey back from Forest whilst Bannan and Baker have had their loans extended until the end of the season.
So with NRC’s injury and Gardner going it leaves a space in central midfield, Delph will now certainly get more starts and can see little movement there, but as we have not scored in 4 PL games we should still be looking at the forwards.
There may have been a chance Carew could go but he became injured once again and the rumors about Heskey were unfounded rubbish. However I still keep hearing background rumours of an interest in Keane. With Gudjohnsen now at Spurs at loan he is such a similar player to Keane we can only presume Keane will leave. On this blog I have made no bones about my admiration for him and how well he would fit in at Villa Park, the deal can be done if ‘appy ‘Arry would let Keane either permanently or on loan to a close rival.
Another player we could look at is Moses at Palace, every highly rated and from the little bits I have seen of hm a very good prospect. However whilst we buy young talent is he any better than Delf and would he stop his progression as he is probably the better player.
Can we do a deal for Keane, Moses or any forward to put away the chances we create, well we will see in 3 days time.

david nugent on loan or buy,,,,,,
this is a very decent player who would be a good buy,,,
lacking confidence,,, with a bit of martins magic he would do well for us,,
and wouldnt cost the earth

I think Keane would be awesome at Villa, But in all honesty what are the chances!
We definetly need a proven striker if we want top 4.

the chances would come with a quality player, he would turn crosses into goals, that is where we miss Carew but god knows when he will be back
can not see us buying anyone so Keane on loan for me is the only feasible one given they now have 5 forwards

There is a desperate need for a striker Ian. No point in buying an unproven, needs to be someone with a proper track record. As you say, Keane would be ideal, but Redknapp isnt so stupid as to sell him to us mid season. We are back where we were 12 months ago with Gabby burned out, Carew injured, Delfouneso unproven and Heskey being Heskey. People keep telling me we learned our lessons from 12 months ago?

Although I agree keane would be good, at least on a loan (but isn’t going to happen), how can you say Fonz is unproven! He has scored almost every time he has started, was top scorer in the u19 international tournament last summer – what more is there to prove?
I am also fast coming to the conclusion that Ash is more of a striker than a winger and a more intelligent striker than Gabby (which is not hard) and Albrighton potentially a great winger with both speed and great ball play and crossing.
Finally, and I can hardly believe I am saying this, I think Heskey is coming good, don’t get me wrong he is not a natural goal scorer but he is a great goal maker, did I really say that ahhh but IMO it is true as much as it hurts me to say it.

Pete, no one is in dispute as to who we need., the problem is that there are so few forwards out there to get
for example would you want Dindane ?
Keane has to be off, the things is who to, no way would Levy allow Gudjohnsen on high wages to join without Keane leaving
