Comments and Debate on Aston Villa

World class quality, names please

Today’s game did not really tell the Villa fans and management anything we did not already know. We ar a fantastically hard working team, we never give up and have a fair amount of quality. However in tight games as we saw against Arsenal & Liverpool we lack the ultimate top quality to seemingly take us storming into the top 4 places.

Sometimes when you go to Villa Park you know things may not pan out as you think they should. News that Reo-coker was not even on the bench suggested that he may have another club lined up but MON denied this and apparently he injured an ankle in training. The game though from our point of view started very slowly and it was not until we got to the second half we started to play like the team we know we are but unfortunately for Gabby he lacked the quality to put three quality chances away. The last chance was typical of his game today, I think when he does not have time to think he is very good as he has shown against the ‘sky 4′ and local derbies. However after Carew’s flick on he had time to think, last minutes and frankly he messed up the chance.

That sums up what I mean by the title of this post we have seen how quality hurts us and makes the difference between three points and one. However it does seem that maybe money like at the vast majority of clubs is rather limited so to get this attacking quality and fit our team spirit and play I am open to names on who it could be.

Out of the main rivals Spurs have creative quality in Modric and Defo. Man City have Teves, Belamy and Robino when he can be bothered. All the English creative quality is either not available or beyond Villa’s price range. Need to be placing some scouts abroad to find this kind of player within Villa price range.

Really frustrating todays game was. Im a bit cheesed off with oneill . he blamed tiredness for the last 15 – 20 mins but yet he only used carew . Delfoneso and delph would have been ideal not only young fresh legs but with a point 2 prove and hungry . I rekon from what ive saw of delfoneso over the last couple of years from the youth all the way through if he had that chance at the end of todays game more than likely he will finish it.The problem with oneill hes 2 old fashioned he said at the begining of the season he was gona be more rotating this season but yet again he dont like change .This is the only criticism i have of him just grow some balls and give the young 1s a chance even albrighton .

  2. can not really disagree Faz, I would have brought Delf on for a tiring Milner and gone 4-3-3 by pushing Young and downing into midifled and gone for it, but I can understand why MON did not.

But too be honest I see little signs of tireness overall.

    Hi,

We’re simply not good enough. Need a top class striker to take the pressure off gabby, a playmaker in the middle (Milner’s primarily a grafter which all teams need) and one outstanding defender.

  4. yep Leo, I think everyone wants that, hence the title, names, because I am struggling to think of one we can get.

I believe we don’t need to buy anyone, personally I think we should play 4-5-1… Warnock Dunne Collins/Cuellar L.Young Downing (AML) Milner (AMC just behind the striker) A.Young (AMR) Petrov Reo-Coker/Sidwell/Delph and Heskey laying off the three attackers

Ok for me we won’t get any world stars “in their prime” as 1. they would not come here without us being top 4 REGULARLY.
    2. We could not afford them without an increased capacity & Champs league windfalls every year.

So…. At the mo we need to focus on either older players who can still “do it” or younger not yet proven types.. somewhat risky or course.

The Younger not yet proven types are now being snapped up by the cash cow clubs a la City & Chelsea although Arsenal seem to have found a fantastic system for bringing youngsters through which is a thing i feel we need to have a good hard look at.

For me the best way forward for us is definately looking at older players who can still do it.. Van Nistlerooy, Luca Toni for example? I mean there were noises of Luca Toni going to West Ham so surely we’d have a chance?

  7. Luca Toni has gone to Rome.

the obvious player is RVN, he wants to leave Madrid, limited risk and known quantity in the PL but injury has really effected him, but obviously a world class finisher, is he still ?

i think rvn may stay at real now because higuain is out for a while – i think we should look to italy, players like balotelli we could get on loan from inter as eto’o and milito don’t get on with him – we really need a quality striker imo

  9. that is a good shout Jack not on loan but actually push the boat out for him but he would cost at least £15m but we all agree we need the ‘next stage’ player

yes thats what we need an experienced striker or a talented younger player with an eye for goal. With gabby he never looks comfortable on the ball n sometimes he has a touch like a baby rhino. Is it me or did he look more comfortable when he played on the wing and goin at players with his pace is it because he saw more of the ball in the game ? To me with him playing up front he always looks 4 the pass instead of putting defences on the back foot with his electric pace .its just frustrating that he blows hot n cold

    quality players that fit the bill that have caught my eye;
Ozil – young German playmaker with an eye for goal who impressed at the under 21 euro cup.
Defour- young Belgian who reminds me of xavi
Dzeko- clinical finisher, although he would cost 15m + and would likely attract bigger clubs
Falcao- linked with us before and scoring for fun in Portugal.

We need a top striker I’d always have Carew above heskey. We need a poacher but can’t think of an available player! We also need a creative midfielder as milner & petrov are workers. We need a flair player!
