Comments and Debate on Aston Villa

Carew’s agent (Per A Flod) speaks and denies nothing

In the telegraph in an article headlined ‘Carew not joing Fernebahce’

Well lets look at it

Martin O’Neill, the Villa manager, has ruled out the possibility of the striker leaving in the approaching transfer window, while Carew’s own agent has dismissed the speculation.

no actual quotes from MON in article.

The Norwegian had been linked with a £5 million move to the Turkish club, but his representative, Per A Flod, said that speculation was pre-emptive.

not incorrect though

“Something will happen during the summer of 2010, either an extension or a transfer,” he said.

“John might also play out his contract, but I don’t think Aston Villa are interested in that. It’s no news that Fenerbahce wants John, that has been known for three years now.”

again no real denial is it ? In fact some very interesting news we were not aware of. Especially the bit about us not being interesting which backed up yesterday’s original Mirror story.

In fact I would say that this story backed up the Mirror’s story from yesterday and would indcate to me we would be interested in a deal at any time if we can get a quality replacement.

ian, i think you’ve got a confirmation bias thing going on here, mate.

try reading his agent’s words in full and in context here:-

    http://www.dagbladet.no/2009/12/08/sport/fotball/john_carew/premier_league/aston_villa/9400867/

you’ll need to translate it of course, translate.google.com/ will help.

also, try searching out turkish language versions of this story and you’ll get close to the source of this nonsense. it’s idle speculation, nothing more and not new either.

quite why it’s been picked up by the british media right now, who knows? i think you’ll find that the closer we get to challenging the top four, the more speculation you’ll find about our players.

in this case, on the one hand we have player and manager on record recently expressing happiness with the current situation. on the other, we have a speculative article in the turkish media without sources or quotes – there’s a surprise!!

personally, until there’s some credible source to these sorts of stories, i’ll believe it when it happens!!

attributing the denial to MON was strange i agree, but that’s down to the telegraph – again, big surprise!! this morning they reported that carew was in “advanced negotiations”!! LOL!! i’ve a feeling you’ll get your quotes on friday, mate.

    • Dan, I obviously am not aware of the orginal reports but it is strange only the Telegraph carries the story ?

It is not like the Telegraph is the Mirror or Sun and the agents quotes in the telegraph are clear, I just wonder if you have the orginal ones in context ?

Frankly you may be aware I would hope MON on Friday comes out and says Carew is off, his presence overall is an hinderence to the team and simply on effort and workrate it is not enough.

yes he scores but his lack of mobility is stunning and in another of my posts I suggest Keane, why not ? It appears according to other speculation Spurs are willing to loan him out.

if you’d looked at the norwegian site you wouldn’t be asking which was the original. the telegraph’s quotes are clearly second hand, and TBH i think they might even be third hand.

the story is *everywhere* and the telegraph have been happy to copycat the original story without citing the turkish sources along with everyone else. as far as online news goes, they’re exactly the same as the sun and the mirror… and everyone else for that matter.

again, if you look at what appears to be the original turkish story it’s clearly speculation, little more than your “we should go after keane” post TBH. quite why that has been picked up in the UK and misreported I have no idea.

i could go through proving all this in some detail, but the comments section is hardly the place and it’s not really necessary as you have your quotes from MON now…

i’m not trying to have a dig here ian, but i would suggest that you would have rubbished this story if it were about a player you rated. you’re not carew’s biggest fan right now and that’s fair enough, but it looks like you’ve given this story more credibility than it deserves because you want it to be true…. confirmation bias.

  3. that maybe true Dan, but at this moment I take the quotes from the agent as published and MON did not deny those, just said he had not heard anything.

lol, if only you held the original story to the same ruthless standards as the denial. guilty until proven innocent!! heheh

ah well, up to you mate.

    p.s. i’ll wager you a cookie that carew is a villa player on feb 1 2010!! ;)

  5. I lost money last winter, I think he will stay too, but I honestly do not think that would be good for us

carew did a fine job at times but sometimes it is time to move on, you can not say his performances deserve a place can you ?
